The rules that shape every US visa application.

If you do not yet have a valid US visa, now is the time to apply. Below are the steps, fees and rules every applicant should know. Always confirm the latest details with the official sources.

How a US visa application works

  1. Choose the visa type

    The purpose of your trip decides the category, for example business or tourism.

  2. Complete the DS-160

    The online nonimmigrant visa form on the CEAC website. Every answer must be accurate and consistent.

  3. Pay the fee

    The application fee is paid through the official payment channels only.

  4. Book the appointment

    Schedule your interview, or apply for an interview waiver if you are eligible.

  5. Attend the interview

    Bring your passport, the confirmation page and your supporting documents.

  6. Collect your passport

    After the decision the embassy or consulate returns your passport.

Processing

Varies

After the interview most decisions are quick, but some applications need further administrative processing.

TL amounts are approximate, converted at the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB) US dollar selling rate of 03.11.2026: 1 US$ = 50.00 TL. The official visa fee is paid in TL at the US consular exchange rate on the day of payment, so the amount you pay may differ.

Rules every traveller should know

Canada and Bermuda

Holders of Canadian or Bermudian passports need no additional travel permit to visit the United States for tourism.

Passport validity

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay, unless your country is exempt.

Your own responsibility

You sign the application and attend the interview yourself. The consular officer alone decides on your visa.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Never give false or misleading information on your application.
  • Do not work in the United States on a tourist or business visitor visa.
  • Do not stay longer than you are allowed. Overstaying can affect future visas.
  • Pay government fees only through official channels.

All you need to know about visa policy

Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries usually travel with an ESTA instead of a visa. Everyone else applies for a nonimmigrant visa: pay the application fee, complete the DS-160 form on the CEAC website and book an appointment. Processing times vary, so apply early.
