New: a free DS-160 photo tool that never uploads your photo

Crop, size and check your visa photo in your browser before you upload it to the DS-160.

The digital photo is one of the most common reasons a DS-160 stalls. The form checks the file when you upload it, and the consular officer looks at it again at the interview. A photo that is slightly too small, too heavy or framed too tightly is enough to stop you near the end of the form.

The VISADOX DS-160 photo tool takes care of the technical part. You choose a photo from your phone or computer, drag and zoom it until the top of your head touches the upper line, your chin touches the lower line and your eyes sit inside the shaded band, and the tool creates a square JPEG between 600 × 600 and 1200 × 1200 pixels and no larger than 240 KB.

After cropping, the tool lists what it checked: square format, pixel size, file size, head height between 50% and 69% of the image, and whether the background around your head looks plain and light. If the background looks dark or uneven, or the area you selected has too little detail, it tells you what to change.

Everything happens in your browser. The photo is not uploaded, stored or sent to VISADOX or anyone else, and the tool does not change your face or replace the background. Edits like these can lead to a rejected photo.

A tool can check sizes and framing, but not every rule. The photo must be recent, taken within the last six months, without glasses and with a neutral expression, and the consular officer decides whether it is accepted. Read the official photo requirements before you upload, and use the tool as a final check.

The tool is free and needs no account. It works on phones and computers and is available in every language of this website.
